Overview

George Washington House is a beautifully restored 18th-century plantation house located within the UNESCO World Heritage listed Garrison Historic Area. This unique cultural site holds immense historical significance as the only house outside of the continental United States where a young George Washington ever lived. He spent two months here in 1751 alongside his sick half-brother, Lawrence, who was seeking a tropical climate to help cure his tuberculosis. Today, the property operates as a vibrant museum showcasing authentic period furniture, colonial medical artifacts, and access to a hidden underground network of 200-year-old defense tunnels.
