Do I need a car in Barbados?

Not every visitor does. A car is useful for flexible island exploration, while taxis, buses and organized pickups can suit shorter or less driving-focused trips.

Can visitors drive in Barbados with a foreign licence?

The visitor driving permit was abolished on 15 October 2025. Visitors must present a valid driving licence to the rental agency and meet its driver requirements. The Car Rental Levy is BBD $5 per day, capped at BBD $35 per rental, for residents and visitors; the rental operator collects it as part of the rental fee. Confirm eligibility, insurance and the full rental price before driving.
