Old Fire Brigade House

Overview

Tucked inside Bridgetown’s historic core, the Old Fire Brigade House is a beautifully preserved architectural landmark dating back to the colonial era. Originally serving as the island’s central fire brigade base under the police force from 1858, this stone structure once housed horse-drawn and hand-pulled steam pump fire carts before motorized engines arrived in the 1920s. After falling into disrepair following the fire service's relocation, the site underwent a careful "adaptive reuse" restoration project. Today, it breathes new life as a welcoming cultural stop, housing a cozy visitor café, an art gallery, and a micro-museum layout dedicated to the heroic historical legacy of the Barbados Fire Service.
